Dump fee calculator

Landfills and transfer stations weigh your truck on the way in and out and charge by the ton. This turns what you can see (a pickup bed, a trailer, a few cubic yards) into an estimated weight and price.

How the estimate works

  1. Volume: the cubic yards you enter, or the yards in the load size you pick.
  2. Weight: volume times the pounds-per-cubic-yard factor for each material (table below), divided by 2,000.
  3. Price: tons times the per-ton rate of the facility you pick, or the national reference rate when you pick none.

Mixed construction & demolition debrisMinnesota PCA (2021) scaled truckloads of mixed C&D averaged 659.2 lb/yd3 (median 457.3), so mixed loads vary widely.484EPA Volume-to-Weight Conversion Factors (April 2016), "Construction & Demolition Bulk" (Florida DEP / University of Florida: 171 weighed loads at 10 facilities)
Broken concrete (loose)Published figures range from 860 lb/yd3 (EPA 2016, concrete inside mixed C&D loads) to 2,850 (Seattle Public Utilities). Broken or crushed asphalt paving (loose)EPA 2016 lists 773 lb/yd3 for asphalt paving inside mixed C&D loads.1,380Los Angeles County Public Works, Converting from Volume to Weight (California Integrated Waste Management Board factors), "Asphalt/Paving, Crushed"
Brick, block & masonry rubbleWhole brick stacked tightly is heavier: the CIWMB table lists 3,024 lb/yd3 for "Brick, Whole".1,800Kansas Department of Health and Environment, Bureau of Waste Management Policy 10-02 (2010), "Clean rubble"
Dirt / soil, dryThe same table lists 2,106 lb/yd3 for wet soil. EPA 2016 lists 929 for dirt and sand inside mixed C&D loads.2,025Los Angeles County Public Works, Converting from Volume to Weight (California Integrated Waste Management Board factors), "Soil, Dry"

Scrap metal, mixed (loose)Dense scrap (pipe, plate, castings) weighs far more: the CIWMB table lists 906 lb/yd3 for metal scrap.225EPA Volume-to-Weight Conversion Factors (April 2016), "Other Ferrous" (C&D metal)
Household trash (bagged or loose, uncompacted)275EPA Volume-to-Weight Conversion Factors (April 2016), "Mixed MSW - Residential, Institutional, Commercial, Uncompacted" 250-300 lb (midpoint used)
