Hawaii rules and programs

  • Yard waste landfill ban

    Partly

Hawaii's solid waste rules require each disposal facility to have a plan to ban or separate green waste, aimed at diverting 75% of commercial and 50% of residential green waste. Ask your county landfill how it takes green waste.

  • Secured load law

    Yes

Loads must be covered or loaded so nothing drops, blows or spills. Loads of loose paper, rubbish, empty cartons, dirt, sand or gravel must be fully covered by a net or tarp. A first violation is fined $250 to $500.

    A second violation within a year brings a $500 to $750 fine plus a 5 to 10 working-day license or registration suspension; a third brings $750 to $1,000 and a 30-day suspension.
