  • Scrap tire disposal rules

    California landfills may not take waste tires unless they are shredded or otherwise permanently reduced in volume first. A $1.75 California tire fee is charged on each new tire.

    Exceptions cover tires under 0.5% by weight of a mixed municipal load and tires that arrive by accident in a homeowner's mixed load and cannot readily be removed.

    Yes

    No vehicle may be driven unless it is built, covered or loaded so none of its load drops, sifts, leaks, blows, spills or otherwise escapes. Only clear water and feathers from live birds are excepted.
