6 sites in Ohio are listed for household hazardous waste: 2 landfills, 3 transfer stations and 1 drop-off center. The most are in Erie County (1), Lorain County (1) and Miami County (1).
All post hours; none publish a fee in our records yet. A site is listed when its own record names household hazardous waste. Limits and fees differ, so call before you load up.
Ohio has no paint stewardship law, so there is no PaintCare network of free paint drop-off sites (PaintCare runs programs only in 12 states and DC). Ask your local household hazardous waste program what paint it takes.
EPA lists paint among household products that can contain hazardous ingredients and points people to local household hazardous waste collections instead of drains or, in some cases, the regular trash.

Car (lead-acid) batteries are banned from Ohio's trash and landfills. Stores that sell them must take your used battery when you buy a new one, and may add a refundable core charge until you bring the old one back.
For household batteries, EPA says alkaline ones can usually go in the trash, but take rechargeable, lithium and button batteries to a battery drop-off or household hazardous waste site.
