32 sites in Washington are listed for household hazardous waste: 2 landfills, 20 transfer stations, 7 drop-off centers and 3 hazardous waste drop-offs. The most are in King County (5), Island County (4) and Spokane County (3).
16 post hours; none publish a fee in our records yet. A site is listed when its own record names household hazardous waste or it is an HHW drop-off. Limits and fees differ, so call before you load up.
Leftover latex or oil-based house paint, primer, stain and varnish can be dropped off free at 295 PaintCare sites in Washington (running since April 2021), including retail stores and household hazardous waste sites. A PaintCare fee of $0.65–$2.75 per container is built into new paint.
Fee by size: $0.65 (over a half pint, under 1 gallon), $1.45 (1–2 gallons), $2.75 (over 2, up to 5 gallons). Bring paint in original labeled, lidded containers up to 5 gallons; every site accepts up to 5 gallons per visit, some more. No aerosols, thinners or solvents. 100+ gallons: free pickup.

Car (lead-acid) batteries are banned from Washington's trash and landfills. Stores that sell them must take your used battery when you buy a new one; without a trade-in you pay a deposit of at least $5, refunded within 30 days.
Household batteries: Washington's battery stewardship law (RCW 70A.555) takes effect January 1, 2027, with producer-funded free collection and a disposal ban for portable batteries. Until then, EPA says keep rechargeable, lithium and button batteries out of the trash.
