Wisconsin rules and programs
Paint recycling program
NoWisconsin has no paint stewardship law, so there is no PaintCare network of free paint drop-off sites (PaintCare runs programs only in 12 states and DC). Ask your local household hazardous waste program what paint it takes.
EPA lists paint among household products that can contain hazardous ingredients and points people to local household hazardous waste collections instead of drains or, in some cases, the regular trash.

Battery disposal rules
YesCar (lead-acid) batteries are banned from Wisconsin's trash and landfills. Stores that sell them must take your used battery when you buy a new one; without a trade-in you pay a $10 deposit.
Household batteries: Wisconsin Act 170 (signed April 2, 2026) creates producer-funded free battery recycling, with a battery landfill ban from January 1, 2028. Until then, EPA says keep rechargeable, lithium and button batteries out of the trash.
